Notion makes it easy to add, resize, and arrange images in any configuration or format (JPG, PNG, GIF, etc.). You can even add them to databases! 🖼

Add images

There are several ways to add an image to a Notion page:
  • Click the + that appears in your left margin when you hover over a new line. Choose Image and press enter.
  • Or type /image and press enter.
  • Both of these will create an image block on your page. Click to upload an image from your computer, embed an image from elsewhere using its URL, or add a stock photo from Unsplash.
  • You can also drag and drop an image into a Notion page! 🏗
To add an image to a Notion database:
  • Add the File property to your database.
  • Clicking that field gives you the option to upload an image from your computer or embed an image from elsewhere.
  • Drag an image file into a card on a database board, or into a File property cell in a table, or into a gallery.
  • Of course, you can also add an image to the body of any page inside a database using /image or drag-and-drop.

Arrange & resize images

  • To arrange: Use drag and drop to move an image around your Notion page. You can drag them into columns as well.
  • To resize: Hover over your image and you'll see two black guides appear on the left and right edges. Click either one and drag to make your image bigger or smaller.

Add a caption

  • Hover over any image and click Caption.
  • You'll see gray text appear below your image. You can edit and style this like any other text on your page.

  • Hover over any image and click the ••• icon on its top right.
  • Select Download to save an image file on Notion to your computer.

Original & full screen view

You can view images in Notion in a couple other ways — in its original format inside your browser, and in full screen mode. Here's how:
  • Hover over any image and click Original. This will open the image in its original size inside a new tab on your browser.
  • For full screen, hover on the image and click •••. Choose Full Screen from the dropdown. (You can also select the image and press space).

Replace image

You can replace an image in Notion with a different one in the same exact size/spot.
  • Hover over any image and click •••. Choose Replace. This will open a window where you can upload another file from your computer or embed an image from elsewhere.

Comment on an image

Like you can with text or any other content block in Notion, you can add a comment to an image.
  • Hover over an image and click the word bubble icon.
  • Or, hover over the image and click •••. Choose Comment. You can type @ followed by someone's name to mention any of your teammates and call their attention to a question, suggestion or idea you have about the image.

Delete an image

  • Hover over your image and click ••• at the top right or ⋮⋮ on the left. You can also right click on the image itself.
  • Choose Delete.

FAQs

  • Can I justify images to be left aligned or right aligned?
Notion doesn't have traditional alignment options at the moment. For now, you can align content left or right by creating a new empty line under it, then using the ⋮⋮ icon to drag it to the left or right to the content. If you drag it to the left, your content will move right, and vice versa. You're essentially creating a new empty column that you can also resize.
  • Is there a limit on the size of file/image/video I can upload?
On Free Plans, the limit is 5MB. For paid plans, there's no limit!
